About Wappapello.net
The Wappapello.net project was started in 2018 and is in active development and testing.
The latest site
news is available here.
Features include:
- Current lake level and spillway outflow data is displayed at the top of every page of Wappapello.net and is updated every hour. Keep in mind the lake level isn't how deep the water is, it's the height of the surface of the lake above sea level, in feet. The average normal summertime level is about 360 feet above sea level. At this level, the lake is between 4 and 15 feet deep in most areas. Some places are more shallow, however, so before boating make sure you know where you are going to avoid hitting bottom. The US Geological Survey is the government agency that collects data on thousands of lakes and rivers across the US. We thank them for making this information available to the public at no charge.
- Members can like and comment on places and events as well as post on their home page. Full social networking features aren't available at this time.
- Events: Our event calendar lists holidays by default, and members can add their own public events like concerts, fishing tournaments, etc. These events may be added by the business or organizations who sponsor them, and can be accessed by the public without restriction. With a little local business support, the calendar should stay packed with things to do. Members can then follow, share, like and comment on the events just like any other post, with the difference being that when you follow an event, it gets added to your personal calendar.
- Places: This is where you can search for places in the area that have what you're looking for. For instance, if you select camping, you'll get a list of all of the camping places. And when you tap/click on one, you'll get that place's page with contact info, hours, prices, etc. This area isn't complete, but will be improved. When finished Places will let members like and comment on each place, as well as follow them like they were other members. You can even have the new events of a certain place automatically added to your calendar if you like. As these features can interact with one another there's a lot that you can do here.
- Stories: A story here is like a blog, or a post that is usually longer than a regular post. In adition to normal posts that show up on your newsfeed, stories are more like magazine articles and are kept seperate. They are a great way to share your experiences, knowledge and expertise. We plan to have featured stories and more, look for this feature to appear soon.
We plan to add a way to manage and use photos in stories and posts more easily, and new features when the site is better established and we are able to gather public interest data that will better determine the development course for the website.
Please keep in mind that the purpose of this site isn't social networking, rather it's an information site about the Wappapello Lake area and we encourage you to share links from this site on your favorite social network sites like Facebook, Gab and Twitter.
