A Natural Treasure in Southeast Missouri

Lake Wappapello is an 8,400-acre reservoir on the St. Francis River, created in 1941 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers primarily for flood control. Nestled in the beautiful Ozark foothills of Wayne and Butler Counties, the lake and its surrounding 45,000-acre project offer some of Missouri's clearest water and most scenic shoreline.

The 1,854-acre Lake Wappapello State Park sits on the southwestern shore and provides easy public access for everyone – whether you're a local looking for a weekend escape or a tourist planning a family vacation.
